The automations that stuck this month used AI to do more work and somehow felt more human, not less. Four hacks, and the thread connecting them.

I spent most of January wiring up automations that were supposed to save me time. Half of them made things worse.

The ones that stuck had a strange quality: they used AI to do more work, and somehow the result felt more human. That is the thread running through this month's hacks.

The ones that stuck

I built an n8n + AI lead qualifier so only people who can actually buy land on my calendar. Sounds cold. It is the opposite. When I do get on a call now, I am fully present instead of resenting the fourth unqualified demo of the day.

Same story with AI hyper-personalized onboarding emails. "Hi {FirstName}" is a mail merge from 2005 and your users know it. The trick is letting the machine read the signup form so every email feels like you actually did.

And the one I keep coming back to: The Founder's Weekly. A plain email from a person. jonas@ gets opened. team@ gets ignored.

Then the boring one that prints money: dunning sequences that recover failed payments. Nobody brags about this at a conference. It quietly recovers 20-50% of churn you never knew you had.

The thread

I produced electronic music for years. The best gear disappears. You stop hearing the compressor and start hearing the song. Good automation is the same. When it works, the customer never feels the machine. They just feel like someone paid attention.

That is the bar I hold now: does it still feel like a person is on the other end when it scales?

I don't always get it right. I killed a few workflows this month that failed that test. The four above passed, and they are the ones I am keeping.
